1080° Snowboarding (Nintendo) See review

A

AeroFighters Assault (Video System/Paradigm) I heard it sucks.

Aero Gauge (Ascii/Locomotive) Looks like an OK F-Zero Clone. Extreme G is probably better.

All-Star Baseball '99(Acclaim/Iguana) A simulation-type game with INCREDIBLE (640x480) graphics. All critics prefer it to Giffey.

All-Star Baseball 2000(Acclaim/Iguana) Like above, but with many small improvements, and cool new batter's interface. Sound still sparse, though.

All-Star Tennis 99 (Ubi Soft) Solid tennis game, nothing special.

Army Men: Sarges Hero's
(3DO)An average tob-raider type game with a lo of strategy involved .

Automobili Lamborghini
(Titus) Slow and boring as hell. Great graphics.

B

Banjo Kazooie(Rare) Oh Oh.. So good. Like Mario 64, but with more textures and bigger worlds.

Battle Tanx (3DO) Boring 1-player, but awesome deathmatch (or so I heard). Kind of like first-person shooter with tanks.

Battle Tanx: Global Assault (3DO) Improved over the first with much better graphics and faster gameplay

Beetle Adeventure Racing (EA) Kind of like San Francisco Rush with better graphics and controls. The courses are huge. I haven't played multiplayer, but I heard the 4-player deathmatch is more of a scavenger hunt than a frag-fest. I recommend this game.

Bio FREAKS(Midway/Saphire) Everyone was WAY too hard on this game. It has some good points. See the damn review.

Blades of Steel(Konami) Not much like the NES classic at all. Haven't played it yet, but the graphics are definately inferior to NHL 99.

Blast Corps (Nintendo/Rare) OK puzzle game, but gets old after 6 hours. Kooky music.

Body Harvest(DMA) A kooky game where you run from vehicle to vehicle, fighting off swarms of aliens and rescuing scientist. Looks fun, but graphics aren't too hot.

Bomberman 64 (Nintendo/Hudson) Decent one player adventure mode, but 4-player isn't as good as the old Bombermans.

Bomberman Hero (Nintendo/Hudson) Bomberman with NO MULTIPLAYER?!?!?!?!? AHHHHHHHHH! One player only. Like Mario 64 or Banjo, but not nearly as revolutionary.

Bottom of the Ninth (Konami) Shoddy port of the decent Playstation game.

Buck Bumble(Argonaut)A decent game that plays like the 3-D free-roaming levels of Starfox 64, except you are a robotic bee. Foggy dull graphics, but fun, with 2-player deathmatch and soccer.

Bust A Move 2(Acclaim/Tatio)A fun Tetris-type game with 16-bit graphics.

Bust A Move 99 (Acclaim/Tatio) Like above, but with a 4-Player mode.

C

California Speed (Midway) Crappy combination of SF Rush and Crusin USA.

Castlevania (Konami) Castlevania comes to the N64 in full 3-D. Choose 1 of 2 characters and jump around in environments that are a bit too gray and blurry. IGN64 says it's good, but not up to classic Castlevania standards.

Charlies Blast Territory (Kemco) A crappy little puzzle game.

Chopper Attack (Some Suck Company) I heard it isn't that good.

Chameleon Twist (Sunsoft/Japan System Supply) Really crappy Mario 64 clone.

Command and Conquer (Westwood) A port of the FIRST C&C game, with polygonal graphics and NO multiplayer mode.

Cruis'n USA (Nintendo/Williams) What thew hell happend? It SUCKS. Get San Francisco Rush instead.

Cruis'n World (Nintendo/Williams) Looks much better than Cruisin' USA, and has 4-player, but it still sucks. The commercial sucks too. See review.

D

Dark Rift (Vic Tokai/Kronos) OK fighting game. Fighters destiny is better.

Deadly Arts (Konami) A slow, boring fighting game with a create-a-player mode. LAME.

Destruction Derby (THQ) A sub-par port of the 3 year-old playsation game.

Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo/Rare) Better than Mario Kart 64 in all areas except 4 player, and character design.

Doom 64 (Midway) Nice environment graphics, high frame rate, but sprite-based enemies aren't that good. No multiplayer.

Dual Heros (Hudson) SHIT!!!! Old japanese fighting game that sucks.

Duke Nukem 64 (GT Interactive/Eurocom) Pretty good, actually. 1 player mode is like the computer, 2-4 player is decent. Sprite-based characters look like crap, though.

Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (GT Interactive) Tomb Raider meets Duke Nukem. Huge, monatonous levels, spending too much time looking for switches to flip, not killing enough enemies.

E

Earthworm Jim 3-D (Vis) Descent 3-D platformer with horrible camera system.

Extreme-G (Acclaim/Probe) Pretty good future racer. multy-player modes aren't that good, though. Cool techno music.

Extreme-G 2 (Acclaim/Probe) Improved sequel, but horrendous framerate all but ruins gameplay. Try F-Zero X or Wipeout instead.

F

F1 Pole Position 64 (Ubi Soft/Human) LAME

F1 World Grand Prix (Nintendo/Video System/Paradigm) I heard it's much better than the other Indy racyer for the N64, and it has a good 2-player mode.

FIFA 98: World Cup (EA Sports) Looks to be the best FIFA ever.

FIFA Soccer 64 (EA Sports) I hear it sucks.

FIFA Soccer `99 (EA Sports) AHHHHHH!!!!! 4 FIFA's! This is by far, the best one yet.

FIFA: Road to the World Cup 98 (EA Sports) Great graphics, but International Superstar plays better.

Fighter's Destiny (Ocean/Imagineer) Best Figter on N64, but it doesn't come close to Tekken

Fighting Force (Core) A crapppy port of a crappy 3 year old Playstation game. Super-repetitive 3D final fight type game.

Flying Dragon (Crap Co.) Some crappy 3-D fighting game.

Fox College Hoops (Fox interactive) Slow college basketball game with boring graphics and no ball physics.

F-Zero X (Nintendo/EAD) Extremely simple graphics, but also very fast. 30 cars, 30 tracks and random track generator. Smoothest 4-player EVER.

G

Gantlet Legends (Midway) A port of the arcade game with added levels.

Gex 3 (3D0) Shitty 3D platformer.

GEX 2: Enter the Gecko (Midway/Crystal D./Realtime Assoc.) Like Mario 64, but not as good. In a rare event, this game falls short of it's Playstation counterpart.

Gex 3 (3D0) Shitty 3D platformer.

Glover
(Hasbro) Mario 64 type game where you control a glove and roll a ball across varyious levels. I heard it has it's flaws, but it's decent.

Goemon's Great Adventure (Mystical Ninja 64 II (Konami) Great sidescrolling polygonal game with 2 player action.

GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo/Rare) Worship this game. Too much good stuff to list here. Best multiplayer on any home console.

Gold Nugget (Westwood Studios/EA) A well-done casino gambling game.

GT Championship Edition(Ocean/Imaginear) Choppy framerate, only 3 courses, boring.

H

Hexen (GT Interactive) Ugly, pixelly mess. Controls like crap too. Decent, but there are at least 5 better Doom-games. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing (Electronic Arts) Decent Racing Game here. Best multiplayer on any home console.

Hybrid Heaven (Konami) An RPG with just 1 character. I couldn't see playing through this after being spoiled by any Final Fantasy game. The battle scenes do have a lot of wrestling moves, though, if you're into that sort of thing.

I

Iggy's Reckin' Balls (Acclaim/Iguana) A weird 4-player racing game. Get your ball to the top of a winding uphill course. Looks like fun.

In-Fisherman Bass Hunter 64 (Rockstar) I have no idea what the title means. A competent 'realistic' fishing simulation.

International Superstar Soccer 64 (Konami/Major A) The best soccer game ever (except for the sequel, below). Very fun to play.

International Superstar Soccer 98 (Konami/Major A) Ever-so-slightly improved version of above agame, making it THE BEST SOCCER GAME EVER.

J

Jeopardy! (Take-Two/Gametek) I wouldn't expect much.

Jet Force Gemeni (Rare) An excellent 3D platformer/shooter with minor framerate and camera issues. Huge game.

K

Knockout Kings 2000(EA) A boxing game featuring boxers throught the ages. Too bad it plays like shit.

Ken Griffey Baseball '99 (Nintendo/Angel Studios)A fast paced game with good graphics.

Killer Instinct Gold (Nintendo/Rare)

Kobe Bryant Basketball(Nintendo) Should be MUCH better than In the Zone. Runs in Medium Res.

L

Lego Racers(High Voltage) OK cart-racing game

Lode Runner 3-D(Infogrames) 3-D update of the clasic puzzle/platform game with bland graphics.

M

Mace: The Dark Age (Midway/Atari) Looks great, but is slow, choppy, and doesn't play that well.

Madden 64 (EA Sports)

Madden 99 (EA Sports) Better than 64. Great, Hi-Rez, Real NFL Licence. Only slight slowdown.

Madden 2000 (EA Sports) Graphics aren't as good as last year, but it runs a lot faster. Plays more like an arcade game than last year, which means it's less of a sim.

Mario Golf (Nintendo) Play golf as one of many classic Mario characters. Cartoony graphics, but a realistic golf game with tons of courses and play modes, with many hidden bonuses. Quite possibly the best golf game on any console system.

Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo) Oh the shame! So much wrong! See review.

Mario Party (Nintendo) Kooky coolection of 4-player mini-games, which are accessed via a boardgame. I heard it sucks to play by yourself, but 3-4 player is fun.

Mike Piazza's Strike Zone (Shitco) This game looks like crap, and it lacks realism. I hear the game is simpler to play than the other 2, but I don't know.

Mickey's Magical Tetris Challenge (Capcom) Tetris with disney characters in the background. 1-2 players.

Micro Machines 64 Turbo (Midway/Codemasters) Ultra-simple multiplayer overhead racing game that supports up to 8 players through controller sharing. All the critics say it is fun.

Milo's Astro Lanes (CrapCo) Lousy bowling game with no ball physics and a psychadelic touch. Multiplayer (4-player) lets you interfer with eachother's lanes.

Mischief Makers (Nintendo/Treasure) Pure 2-D action goodness. The boss's are really cool. The music gets stuck in your head.

Mission: Impossible(Ocean/Infograms) Graphics much worse than in early pictures. Not as good as Goldeneye, but still decent.

Monoco Grand Prix(Ubi Soft) Good Indy Car racing Game.

Monster Truck Maddness 64 (Rockstar) An OK Monster truck game with bland graphics.

(Midway) Pure CRAP.

Mysical Ninja 64 (Konami) Great. See review.

N

Nagano Winter Olympics '98 (Konami/Diamond Dust)

Nascar 99 (EA Sports) If you like Nascar, this has all the features you'll want. If not, its a racing game with 1 type of car and oval tracks.

Nascar 2000 (EA Sports) Almost identical to last years game with very few improvements

NBA Live '99 (EA Sports) Almost identical to Live '98 for Playstation. Live '99 for Playstation is better.

NBA Hangtime (Midway) Fun, if simplistic. Graphics are 16-bit 4-player rules.

NBA In The Zone '98 (Konami/KCEO) I heard it sucks.

NFL BLITZ (Midway) NBA Jam meets football. Super fast action packed simplified football. Critics say it's loads of fun. 1-2 players.

NFL Blitz 2000 (Midway) This sequel improves on the first in every way and adds a 4-player mode.

NFL Quarterback Club '98 (Acclaim/Iguana) Hi-Res football, but moves really slow. Marve Albert commentary. YES!

NFL Quarterback Club '99 (Acclaim/Iguana) Like last years, but a bit faster, better AI, much improved graphics, and 45 minutes of commentary. Still, there are certain plays that work too well ('money plays').

Vililante 8 (Activision) Yuck. Framerate is the worst yet. All but unplayable. NHL 99(EA Sports) This game at least looks amazing, with hi-rez graphics. Best Hockey on N64.

NHL Breakaway '98 (Acclaim/Iguana West) Heard its pretty good.

Nightmare Creatures (Midway/Calisto) A slightly improved port of an OK Playstation game. Run around the streets of london in the 1800's and cut up gothic monsters who bleed a lot. Nothing to get too excited about. 1 Player.

O

Off Road Challenge(Midway) It is supposed to be worse than Crusin' USA!!!! AHHHHHHH!

Olympic Hockey Nagano '98 (Midway) I've heard bad things about it.

P

Penny Racers(?) An OK game with dull graphics and sound. Starts out slow, until you upgrade your car. Not too hot.

Pilotwings 64 (Nintendo/Paradigm) OK. Music is pure porn. Gets boring after a while. Frame rate is at 18-25 fps.

Pokemon Snap (Nintendo) Ride around 6 courses taking pictures of a variety of Pokemon, getting points for centering, getting more than 1 in a picture, and more points for rare Pokemon. It's not as bad as it sounds, really, but the game is really short.

Q

Quake (Midway) One player is comparable to computer, but 2-player is a let-down. Not good

Quake 2 (Activision) Wow. Leaps and bounds better than the first one. Runs fast in 1 player mode, runs fast in 2 -player mode, great lighting effects. Not as good as goldeneye, but possibly better than Turok 2 in multiplayer. Fast fast fast.

Quest 64 (THQ) Great real-time graphics, but lame plot, and no money system. A VERY basic RPG

R

Rampage World Tour 64 (Midway) Looks like it might be fun with 3 people.

Rampage Universal Tour (Midway) Like above with new monsters and very slight improvements.

Revolt (Acclaim) Radio-controlled car racer with beautiful graphics, ruined by unplayable frame rate.

Road Rash 64(EA) Bland graphics, but fast gameplay, even in 4-player, plays like classic road rash.

Robotron 64 (Crave Entertainment/Player One) Fun for 2 hours, but then what?

Rouge Squadron (Factor 5/Lucasarts) Terrestrial-based dogfighting and bombing missions using an assortment of classic Star-Wars Vehicles. Great graphics, runs in Hi-Rez with ram pak. Tons of speech.

Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt (THQ) A really crappy board game, like Mario Party dipped in shit.

Rush 2 (Midway/Atari) Sequel to SF Rush is just like the first, but with slightly improved graphics, much better music, way better control, some 'real racing' courses, and a (or so I hear) "super-fun 2-player stunt mode", which makes use of some huge specially designed stunt courses.

S

San Francisco Rush (Midway/Atari) Fun to play, good 2-player mode, but graphics are really bland.

S.C.A.R.S.
(Ubi Soft) A more 'mature' Diddy Kong Racing that isn't as good. Great lighting effects, though.

Shadow Man (Activision) A cross between Tomb Raider and Zelda. Very dark and mature title, with tons of blood and swearing. Supposed to be pretty good.

Snowboard Kids
(Atlus) Looks like a lesser form of Diddy Kong

Snowboard Kids 2
(Atlus) Same as the first, with no improvements, just different tracks and characters.

South Park 64 (Acclaim/Iguana) Lots of voice, but boring 1-player mode, bad level design, and choppy 4-player mode. Decent 2-3 player, though.

Space Station Silicone Valley(DMA) While it may initially look like a cutesy Mario 64 clone, it has quite a disturbing sense of humor. Also, you can 'posess' any enemy any control them. Pretty cool. IGN64.com gave it a 9.4 or something.

Star Fox 64 (Nintendo) Super fun 1 player mode, very cinematic. Tons of voice. Great 4-player too.

Star Shot: Space Circus Fever (Infogrames) A 3-D Platformer hindered by really bad frame rate issues.

Star Solidier (Shitco) A traditional top-view shooter. Simplistic polygonal graphics and boring gameplay. Hurray. Get a Super Nintendo. Half the games for it had better looking graphics.

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (Nintendo/LucasArts) An OK, if boring racing game based on the Pod Racing sequence

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (Nintendo/LucasArts) Super flawed. First stage is the best. music is nostalgia-inducing.

SuperMan 64 (Titus) One of the worst games ever. Ugly, choppy, stupid, bad.

Super Mario 64 (Nintendo) Still unsurpassed as a 3-D platformer. Intuitive control. Wide open spaces. If you can't control this game, you are a moron. Get the HELL off my page!

Super Smash Brothers (Nintendo/HAL) An awesome, easy to learn fighting game staring 12 classic Nintendo characters. Highly recommended, 1-4 players.

T

Tetris (The New) (Ninendo) Classic tetris with a new 4-player mode and an impressive (by N64 standards) musical score.

Tetrisphere (Nintendo/H2O) Fun puzzle game, if thats what your into. Great techno music.

Tonic Trouble (Ubi Soft) Crappy 3-D platformer

Top Gear Overdrive (Kemco/Snowblind) Wilder Seuquel to Rally, supports Hi-rez with ram pak. Made by a different developer.

Top Gear Rally (Boss Studios) Slow until you earn the GOOD cars. Then it gets good. You can 'paint' your cars, too.

Triple Play 99 (EA Sports) Shitty translation of last years playstation game. Don't buy it.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Acclaim/Iguana) Great graphics, but obtrusive fog, and long, boring (Acclaim/Iguana) Great graphics, but obtrusive fog, and long, boring levels. Great weapon effects.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (Acclaim/Iguana) Quake-like game that runs at 640*480 with ram pak. Beautiful texture design and detailed enemies. Has some frame rate issues, but still good. Good multiplayer, but still not as good as Goldeneye. Huge levels. Great game.

Twisted Edge Snowboarding(Boss Studios/Midway) Forget it. Go get 1080 Snowboarding instead.

V

V-Rally Edition '99 (Infograms) crappy rally racing game.

Vililante 8 (Activision) Based on Interstate 76 for the PC, and a port of V8 for the Playstation. Twisted Metal style car-combat. Like the PS version, but with 2-player missions, 4-player deathmatch, hi-res with the ram pak, but the music isn't as good.

Virtual Chess 64(Titus) Like Battle Chess, but with Hi Resolution polygonal battles. The character design is VERY ugly.

Virtual Pool(Interplay) No-frills realistic pool simulator. Yippee.

W

Waialae Country Club True Golf Classics (Nintendo/T&E Soft)Not too good. Choppy framerate, bland colors, based on a 2 year old japanese game.

War Gods (Midway/Eurocom) Not as bad as everybody says. High frame rate, but stilted gameplay.

Wave Race 64 (Nintendo) Awesome.See review.

Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
(Midway/Atari) Only a bit more strategic that NBA Jam. Fun with 4 people.

(Midway/Atari) I heard its Identical to the first one. WCW Mayhem(EA) A fast wrestling game with good commentary but little in the way of extras.

WCW Nitro (THQ) A port of the 3 year old Playstation game. Everyone I talk to says it sucks.

WCW Revenge (THQ/Inland Prod.) Just like the game directly below, but with more wrestlers, managers, better crowd graphics, more weapons, and cool wrestler intros.

WCW vs. NWO World Tour (THQ/Inland Prod.)One playermode sucks, 2 Player is pretty good, 3 and 4 player ROCK.

Wetrix (?) A wierd and kooky puzzle game

Wheel of Fortune(Take 2/GameTek) What the hell happened? How did they manage to screw this one up?

Winback (Koei) A lot like Metal Gear Solid, more gunfighting, less story.

Wipeout 64 (Psycognosis/Midway) N64 Debut of classic Playstation futuristic racer, with new tracks, music, and multiplayer modes. Some prefer it to F-Zero X. Good stuff.

WWF Attitude (Acclaim) Plays almost exactly like Warzone, but more wrestlers, elaborate introductions, expanded create-a-wrestler, and many more options.

WWF Warzone(Iguana/Acclaim) Gameplay is good, with fighting game style special moves. Create-A-Wrestler feature RULES.

World Driver Championship (Midway) The most realistic driving game on the N64, with great graphics to boot.

Y

Yoshi's Story (Nintendo) Not nearly as good as SNES version. Get Mischeif Makers instead.

For a second opinion, go to
IGN64.com

Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo) Quite possibly the BEST (1 Player) GAME EVER. Everything from previous Zeldas successfully made 3-D. Will take hours upon hours of your time. Buy it.
